College Work
One of my earliest illustration modules in Art and Design Year 1 was Drawing from Observation, revolving around still life drawings. Shrivelled plantlife was handed out for practrice on outlines and contour lining. Concave lining and faded lines were applied to add texture and wrinkles to the plant's surface and the tip.
One artist referred to in observational drawing was Albrecht Durer, who put a lot of emphasis on contour lining to build texture and surface. Cross hatching and line contours shade the pillow's surface.
Most observational drawings tend to be of fruit like apples, whole or cut in half. I chose to draw walnuts and hazelnuts. A particularly interesting addition was the pheasant feather. The colours were muted to golden beige and rich browns.
Deep orange-brown paper was chosen as an experiment in drawing pheasant feathers. A sharpened pencil was used to capture the contours of the feather's fibres. Colouring pencils worked well against the orange-brown paper. Dark crayon was shaded against the contour lining and white areas of the feather.
Narrative Image making involved choosing a title for a fully illustrated book. I went with Medieval England and referred to illuminated manuscripts and the Bayeux Tapestry to come up with the visual story. These illustrations were inked with calligraphic equipment and painted with a combination of watercolour and acrylics.
This task was to illustrate an infographic based on ancient cultures. I depicted Egytian belief in afterlife with reference to artifacts I found in the Ashmolean museum at Oxford and books on Tutankhamun. This infographic was painted with acrylics on canvas browned with teabags.

In this fan poster I drew in 2012, characters from the tv series Teen Titans and the action figure toyline GI Joe are mashed into one big story. The composition was inspired by a poster of 'GI Joe The Rise of Cobra.'
Looking at it now, the buildings on fire and the specrum of colours pretty much clash with each other. I think I should have picked a background that kept in context with the above backdrop like another set of buildings.
This GI Joe comic is an example of the kind of comics I enjoy drawing. I like comics full of fast-paced action, special effects and visually engaging characters.
